Team News, Predicted Rangers Lineup vs Dundee | Scottish premiership 2021-22

Rangers will continue their push for the Scottish Premiership title when they make the trip to Dundee for the second time in a week on Sunday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side dismantled Dundee 3-0 in the Scottish Cup at the weekend but followed it up with a limp display against Red Star Belgrade, losing 2-1. Nevertheless, the Scottish champions secured a berth in the quarterfinals of the Europa League, keeping their hunt for a treble alive.

Rangers currently trail Celtic by three points and will look to keep the pressure on the league leaders ahead of the Old Firm derby next month.

Rangers have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches against Dundee in all competitions and have lost just twice in their last 20 away matches against Mark McGhee’s side.

Rangers Team News

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has almost a full squad to choose from, with Ianis Hagi and Nnamdi Ofoborg the only players unavailable due to injury.

The Dutchman made a number of changes for the trip to Belgrade, with Leon Balogun, John Lundstram, and Joe Aribo returning to the side in place of Filip Helander, Ryan Sands and Aaron Ramsey respectively. He is likely to rotate once again, given the strength of the opposition.

Rangers predicted lineup vs Dundee FC (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

Allan McGregor is still going strong at the age of 40. The Scotsman made a number of key saves in the two legs against Red Star that guaranteed his side’s progression, and will look to translate that form into the league, where he has struggled in recent months.

Defenders

Leon Balogun is expected to keep his place ahead of Helander in central defence. He will partner Conor Goldson, who will have an important role to play in Rangers’ title run-in despite being tipped to leave in the summer.

Captain James Tavernier will continue at right-back. The Englishman is the first name on the teamsheet for Rangers and is a catalyst for most of their attacks.
football formations

Calvin Bassey has impressed under Van Bronckhorst and should start at left-back, keeping Borna Barisic out of the side.

Midfielders

Ryan Jack’s return from injury has provided a massive boost to Rangers and he will slot in at central midfield alongside the versatile John Lundstram and Glen Kamara.

Attackers

Alfredo Morelos will continue to lead the line. The Colombian is Rangers’ top-scorer this season with 11 goals, but he’s netted just once in his last seven matches.

Ryan Kent will occupy his usual spot on the left flank. The dynamic winger scored in midweek against Red Star and will relish the opportunity to run at a Dundee defence that’s conceded a league-high 51 goals this season.

Joe Aribo has excelled on the right flank for Rangers in recent games, but he might make way for Aaron Ramsey for this game. The Welshman has barely made an impact since his arrival from Juventus, although he did show glimpses of his best in the 3-0 win at Dundee last weekend.
