Manchester United to return for Tottenham star: Can he turn around their fortunes?

Manchester United are reportedly exploring a fresh transfer approach for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Despite being without a permanent manager, the Red Devils are looking for attacking reinforcements in the summer.

They have been keen on signing Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland for some time now. But with Manchester City moving ahead in the race to sign the Norwegian international, the 20-time English champions have been forced to look elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have set their sights on Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who has courted hard by neighbours Manchester City last summer. Spurs are hoping to qualify for the Champions League next season and keep the England international at least for another year, the report adds.

Kane, 28, wanted to end his long-time association with Tottenham last year and join Manchester City, but chairman Daniel Levy refused to let the club’s star striker leave.

As the English centre-forward will enter the final two years of his contract in June, Manchester United are looking to renew their interest in the 28-year-old and set up a potential reunion with possible new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Kane to Manchester United – Can he turn around the club’s fortunes?

Manchester United have started scouring the market for a centre-forward, with Cristiano Ronaldo not getting any younger and Edinson Cavani set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the ongoing campaign.

Mason Greenwood is indefinitely suspended by the club following off-field matters, while Anthony Martial’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.

After a slow start to the season, Harry Kane has recaptured his lost mojo under Antonio Conte in recent weeks, netting six goals in the last five Premier League games including Spurs’ 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend.

Rated as one of the best strikers in world football, the England international would instantly improve Manchester United. He can score all kinds of goals, link up play, create chances and provide assists, in short, the 28-year-old is a complete package. Kane’s playmaking abilities are on an elite level, with the Spurs talisman often seeing dropping deep in games to receive the ball before making an incisive pass in the final third of the pitch.

At 28, Kane is at the peak of his powers and would be a top replacement for Cavani, whilst providing sufficient back-up to the ageing Ronaldo. Not to forget, Mauricio Pochettino is one of the leading candidates to become the next permanent Manchester United manager, and if the Argentinean does get the job, signing Kane would make even more sense due to their past working relationship at Spurs.

However, the Red Devils would need to break their bank to sign the Tottenham star. If they manage to acquire his services, the English centre-forward could play an instrumental role in the club’s chase for big prizes under a new manager next season.
