Luka Jovic reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid in the summer as he bids to revive his career elsewhere.
The Serbian international’s superb form for Eintracht Frankfurt convinced Real Madrid to spend €60 million in the summer of 2019. Since signing for Los Blancos, he has been restricted to only 49 games, in which he has managed a paltry three goals and four assists.
According to The Marca, Real Madrid are aware that Luka Jovic will depart at the end of the season, with the striker not in the plans of manager Carlo Ancelotti. Arsenal and Everton had expressed an interest in him back in January, while AC Milan have recently emerged as a potential suitor along with Borussia Dortmund.
Jovic, 24, is yet to start a La Liga game this season, managing only 13 substitute appearances to date. Things haven’t worked out for him at the Santiago Bernabeu, but as he has a contract until 2026, Real Madrid are planning to send the Serbian out on loan and include a €20 million buy option, the report adds.
That being said, here are three potential destinations for the Real Madrid outcast.
#1 Arsenal
Arsenal are certain to sign a striker in the summer transfer window after missing out on Dusan Vlahovic in January. They terminated Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract in January that allowed him to join Barcelona in January, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are in the final months of their deals.
Luka Jovic, in that regard, is a viable target for the Gunners. He would fit into Mikel Arteta’s system well, giving Arsenal the much-needed goals they have lacked through the centre of the pitch this season.
Even if the north Londoners decide to offer Lacazette a new contract off the back of his improved performances in recent months, Jovic would be a good option to add competition and rotate with the Frenchman.
#2 West Ham United
West Ham can be counted as an ideal suitor for Luka Jovic as the Premier League outfit continue their search for a new striker.
David Moyes’ side have lacked a clinical goalscorer in the attack in the last few seasons. Michail Antonio has done a very good job in Moyes’ system but he has been plagued with injuries and inconsistency, which has impacted the Hammers to a certain extent.
Jovic, to that end, will be an excellent option for the Hammers. Although the Serb’s stock is down at the moment having not enjoyed much game time this season at Real Madrid, he is a talented player who has the qualities to make an immediate impact at West Ham. The 24-year-old’s hard-working nature also bodes well for Moyes’ system.
#3 Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund will be actively scouring the market for a new striker as they potentially prepare for life without Erling Haaland, who has been heavily linked with some of Europe’s bigwigs for a good part of 2022.
And that’s where Luka Jovic comes into the fray. The 24-year-old star needs a change in scenery to revive his career and Borussia Dortmund must offer him an escape route from Real Madrid.
Having scored 40 goals in 93 appearances across two stints with Eintracht Frankfurt, the Serb has no shortage of Bundesliga experience and could hit the ground running at Dortmund. He has a good injury record and should add bite to the Dortmund attack, especially with the likes of Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt partnering him on the flanks.
To put things simply, Jovic should be Dortmund’s desired replacement for the outgoing Haaland.
