Arsenal have reportedly joined the race for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who wants a new deal if he’s to stay.
The Poland international, 33, is one of the best players in the world at the moment, having plundered a mammoth 333 goals in 362 games for Bayern Munich in all competitions, including 39 in 33 appearances so far this campaign. However, the striker is waiting for the Bavarians to offer a new contract, but nothing has arrived as of now.
According to Four Four Two, Arsenal are among a number of clubs who may look to prise Robert Lewandowski away from Germany following a deadlock in contract negotiations. The 33-year-old wanted to stay at Bayern but is now refusing to rule anything out regarding his future.
Lewandowski’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer of 2023 and is open to considering a new challenge at this stage in his career. The Polish marksman has been playing in Germany for nearly 12 years now, turning out for Borussia Dortmund before joining rivals Bayern Munich in 2014. Having won the Champions League in 2020, he could lift his 10th Bundesliga title this season.

Arsenal have made it a top priority to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta has just two strikers to select from in Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah following the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona on a free transfer in January. Not to forget, both Lacazette and Nketiah are out of contract in the summer and are expected to leave the club.
Thus, it is logical why the Gunners are eyeing a top-quality centre-forward, making Robert Lewandowski a great fit. Lewandowski has achieved everything in his illustrious career with Bayern Munich and established himself as one of the best players in the game.
The Pole is a deadly striker who is capable of scoring any kind of goals, as well as linking up play and creating chances for his teammates in the final third. He would undoubtedly bolster the Gunners’ attack, whilst being an immediate upgrade over Lacazette.
Plus, Lewandowski’s volumes of experience and winning mentality would go a long way in helping the young Arsenal team evolve under the astute management of Mikel Arteta. With the centre-forward turning 34 in August, the ex-Dortmund star could prove to be an excellent stop-gap solution for Arteta’s club.
However, for Arsenal to even give themselves a chance of signing Lewandowski from Bayern this summer, they must first qualify for the Champions League next season.
