Tottenham Likely To Return For £70m-rated Target In The Summer: Right Option For Conte?

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to return for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen next summer. This news comes as per Football Insider.

Antonio Conte is looking to implement the 3-5-2 formation with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min leading the attack. The former Chelsea boss is said to be looking for backup when it comes to attacking options. With that said, Spurs have identified Osimhen as a key target for the summer.

The 23-year-old has been valued at £70 million by Napoli and the Nigerian has come good for them this season. The forward has scored nine goals from 18 appearances across all competitions for Napoli this season. He has managed to impress Tottenham in his Europa League outings as well, the source reports.

The striker, though, has missed around 2 months of action due to injury and COVID-19 but the last two games have seen him return as a substitute.

What will Victor Osimhen add to the team?

Having already established himself in the Serie A as well as Ligue 1, Victor Osimhen can be a good buy for £70 million in the current inflated market. Realistically speaking, Spurs are not in a position to land someone like Erling Haaland owing to their current lack of European football and the intense competition surrounding the signature of the Norwegian and a couple of other players in the same ilk. In the backdrop of that, Osimhen is the kind of striker that Spurs have been lacking.

Over the last few years, the Lilywhites have failed to make some much-needed additions to their attack. The lack of proper attacking depth has hurt them this season as well. Earlier it was due to Harry Kane being overworked and riddled with injury issues in the latter stages while this season has seen the striker take too long to get into his groove following his botched up transfer to Manchester City in the summer.

Kane’s goal-drought has become a much bigger problem than it seems to be, for Spurs. The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea have good backups when it comes to goal-scorers and that has caused them not to rely on a single individual.

Victor Osimhen is strong physically and is a pacy striker who makes runs into closed yet unmarked spaces. He is good in the air, standing at 1.86m from the ground, and has got an impressive hang time. In short, Osimhen is the kind of player that Spurs need at the moment. He can also be the one that steps up if at all Kane leaves in the near future.

Spurs are likely to return for Osimhen next summer. But, if the £70 million price tag will prove to be a stumbling block will be something that remains to be seen given Daniel Levy’s penchant for taking things to the wire in a bid to to land his man on his own terms.
