Key Change At The Back: 4-3-3 Barcelona Predicted Lineup vs Espanyol

Barcelona have received a major lifeline in their attempt to secure a UCL spot for next term. Following the convincing 4-2 win over rivals Atletico Madrid, the spirits are certainly flying high at Camp Nou.

The former La Liga champions are now presented with a golden chance to go above Real Betis, taking them to third position. With that said, it is not going to be easy for the Blaugrana.

Los Cules will face a stern test in what could potentially be a heated Catalan derby against Espanyol. Last time around, Barca managed to scrap out a less-than-convincing 1-0 win in Xavi’s first game in charge. This current side is a different-looking side though and a much better performance can be expected this time around.

Barcelona are likely to grab all three points against rivals Espanyol with Xavi expected to go with his preferred 4-3-3 formation for this game.

Barcelona team news

The injury storm has not been kind to the Blaugrana this season. Eric Garcia, Sergi Roberto, Moussa Wague, and Samuel Umtiti are out as a result of injury. Dani Alves is facing a 2-match suspension and will miss this clash. Memphis Depay could be named in the squad with some sources claiming that he has recovered full fitness.

Ousmane Dembele was on the bench against Atletico and his situation at the club still remains the same. The contract standoff between him and the club is still very much at large and it is unclear if he will get minutes. However, the Frenchman will be in the squad.

Predicted Barcelona lineup vs Espanyol (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper

Marc Andre ter Stegen has been Xavi’s number one choice in between the sticks this season and as a result, the German international will start this game in the Barcelona lineup, barring any last-minute injury.

Defence

With Dani Alves out, Sergino Dest could start as the right-back. Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique, and Jordi Alba are all expected to retain their place in the Barcelona lineup.

Midfield

The midfield that started against Diego Simeone’s side is likely to start against Espanyol as well. This means that Sergio Busquets, Pedri, and Frenkie De Jong will be running the heart of the game for Barcelona.

All eyes will be on Frenkie De Jong, who has been putting in impressive performances lately, suggesting that the Dutchman might have found his mojo back.

Attack

Xavi is not expected to tinker with the front three that won him the game against Rojiblancos. Adama Traore, Ferran Torres, and Gavi are all expected to start in the Barcelona lineup.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could make an appearance off the bench.
