Newcastle United will play host to Everton in the Premier League on Tuesday in a battle between two teams placed too close to the relegation zone.
The Magpies are in real danger of dropping into the Championship next season as they find themselves in the 19th place, a point away from safety. But a slew of new signings made by the club in the January window are expected to push them to safety eventually.
Eddie Howe’s side have failed to win 10 of their last 11 home matches, with their only victory during that period coming against fellow relegation stragglers Burnley in December. But they did snap a six-game winless run with a 1-0 victory at Leeds United last time around, taking a much-needed shot of confidence into Tuesday’s game.
Everton, meanwhile, have punched well below their weight this season and are currently in 16th, four points clear of the drop zone.
Frank Lampard’s arrival in the hotseat, however, appeared to breathe new life into the Toffees, who dismantled Brentford in the FA Cup at the weekend.
The last time these two sides met, a brace from Callum Wilson fired Newcastle to a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park.

Newcastle United vs Everton – Key Players
Newcastle United – Bruno Guimaraes
The Brazilian will look to hit the ground running at St James’ Park. The 24-year-old is a genuine box-to-box midfielder who can break up opposition attacks and drive his team forward in transition. Newcastle have lacked any real quality in midfield this season and the Brazilian will be integral to their hopes of survival.
Everton – Dominic Calvert-Lewin
After an outstanding 2020-21 season in which he netted 21 goals in all competitions, Calvert-Lewin was expected to kick on this season and take his game to a whole new level. He netted in each of his first three league games, before a fractured toe derailed his campaign.
He is now back to full fitness though and will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet once more against a frail Newcastle backline.
Prediction: Newcastle United 1-2 Everton
