Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The French international, 19, only joined Real Madrid in the summer from Rennes, but he has struggled for regular game time. The central midfielder is increasingly frustrated by his situation of late under Carlo Ancelotti and could seek a move away from the club.
According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Liverpool are ready to offer Eduardo Camavinga an escape route out of Real Madrid. Having paid €30 million to sign him from Ligue 1 club Rennes, the Los Blancos are set to demand no less than €45 million, which Liverpool are prepared to pay to secure his services, the report adds.
Widely regarded as one of the hottest midfield prospects in Europe, Camavinga had attracted a lot of attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the summer, but Real Madrid won the race for his signature. However, things haven’t gone according to the plan for the young Frenchman, who has managed 17 games across all competitions for the La Liga heavyweights, chipping in with a goal and an assist in the process.
Eduardo Camavinga to Liverpool—A brilliant addition to the Reds midfield?
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp failed to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window after the Dutch midfielder had run down his contract and joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. And the Reds have subsequently felt the absence of Wijnaldum in midfield at times this season, with the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho not performing at their best.
With Jordan Henderson and James Milner in their 30s, Curtis Jones still out with an eye injury, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain blowing hot and cold and Naby Keita set to depart for the AFCON in January, Jurgen Klopp is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements. So, it leaves Liverpool to invest in a central midfielder, making Eduardo Camavinga a viable target.
Camavinga is believed to have grown frustrated due to a lack of regular game time at Real Madrid and could be open to an exit. If the Los Blancos are ready to let him leave in January itself, the teenage starlet could excel with a move to Liverpool.
The Frenchman is a box-to-box midfielder by trade but can also play as a lone 6 in a 4-3-3 system. Nonetheless, he operates best as an advanced 8, making him a perfect long-term replacement for either one of Henderson or Milner in the Liverpool engine room.
Technically gifted, the ex-Rennes starlet can dictate the tempo of the game from the centre of the pitch with his passing and game-reading skills. Camavinga likes to keep things simple and never hesitates to stick a foot out to stop his opponent from advancing. A busy player with bundles of energy, he would add a lot of value to the Reds squad.
Considering Camavinga’s situation at Santiago Bernabeu, Liverpool must not hesitate to test Real Madrid’s resolve with a cheeky bid for the talented midfielder in January.
