Juventus are reportedly exploring the possibility of offloading outcast Aaron Ramsey, with Newcastle United among a few Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
Aaron Ramsey, 30, has failed to make the desired impact at Juventus since joining on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2019. A spate of injuries has not helped the midfielder’s cause in Turin, with the Welsh international falling out of favour under Max Allegri. He has made just five appearances across all competitions for the Serie A so far this season.
According to Goal, Newcastle United are interested in bringing back Aaron Ramsey to the Premier League, as Juventus remain eager to get the midfielder off their books in January. However, the Turin giants recognise that his salary of over €7 million could be a sticking point in selling the player next year, the report adds.
The Welshman has made a total of 70 appearances for Juventus since arriving in Italy two years, posting six goals. During his two years with the Italian club so far, he has won three major honours, including the Serie A title.
Aaron Ramsey to Newcastle United—A smart signing for the Magpies?
Cash-rich Newcastle United have appointed Eddie Howe as the successor to Steve Bruce to try and save the club from relegation. Equipped with a substantial transfer budget after the £305m Saudi-backed takeover of the club, Howe will likely be able to spend in the January transfer window to bolster the Magpies squad.
Newcastle have one of the worst defences in the Premier League, which makes defensive reinforcements a top priority in the upcoming transfer window. In addition, Howe should also aim to add a bit of creative spark to his Magpies side that has managed only 12 goals in 11 games.
To that end, the Toon Army would do a good job by signing Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The 30-year-old has suffered a number of niggling injuries since his Arsenal days, which has hampered his progress throughout his career. Things haven’t changed much at Juventus, with the midfielder failing to justify his high wages.
When fit, though, the Welshman is a reliable player with fantastic technical abilities on the ball, supreme energy that helps him cover a lot of ground and vision to carve open rigid defences. Ramsey is an expert in timing his runs from midfield and into the box to score goals, and that combined with his off the ball work ethic, discipline, versatility to play in various positions and creativity make him such a solid player to have in the squad.
Ramsey would undoubtedly add a different dimension to Newcastle’s attack while his volumes of Premier League experience could go a long way in helping the club avoid relegation. This is one deal the Magpies should look to get over the line in January.
