Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi, and will compete with Bayern Munich for the German international.
The Reds are a bit light in the attacking department, and might struggle for depth early next year when some of their stars leave for the AFCON. Regardless, they will need more quality up front to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea this season, and want to sign Adeyemi as per Daily Mail.
Adeyemi, who was on Bayern Munich’s books for a while, has made his name in the Austrian Bundesliga. The forward has managed to replace Erling Haaland, which is no mean feat give the Norwegian’s talents.
Adeyemi’s current contract with Salzburg runs until 2024, so Salzburg are demanding a fee of £17 million which is steep for a teenager.
Karim Adeyemi to Liverpool – What will he add to the team?
Red Bull Salzburg have lost several key players to big-money moves, but they somehow find a way to replace them with talented players. Adeyemi is the latest young talent to make a name for himself after the likes of Erling Haaland and Patson Daka.
A fleet-footed striker who has pace to burn, Adeyemi would be a good backup for the likes of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota in the central role. Despite his slight frame, he is good with his back to goal as his low centre of gravity and good control help him keep the ball and eventually find his teammates.
Adeyemi’s work ethic is pretty impressive too, so he would be a good young addition to the attack and press from the front.
The most important thing, however, is his output in front of goal. His stellar displays and prolificacy in front of goal despite being just 18 last season eventually led to an international call-up. He even scored on his debut against Armenia.
With time, Adeyemi will only get better and Liverpool should do everything they can to sign the talented teenager. The only question is how long he will take to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
While Sadio Mane has been a success story, the likes of Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino haven’t really shown their best form at Liverpool. A player moving directly from the Austrian Bundesliga to the Premier League will take some time to settle.
However, Adeyemi’s age and price tag make him a gamble worth taking. Even if he fails to make the grade immediately, a loan move might eventually help him in the long run.
