Arsenal player ratings vs Brighton: Ramsdale impresses again in stalemate

Arsenal‘s run of three consecutive Premier League victories came to an end after they battled to a 0-0 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Brighton dominated a large portion of the match but barely threatened the Arsenal goal until late in the second half. The Gunners had a golden opportunity to steal a victory when Emile Smith Rowe found himself through on goal but his near-post effort was well saved by Robert Sanchez.

The hosts had a late penalty shout turned down by Jon Moss as both teams settled for a point. The result moves Arsenal to seventh on 10 points from 7 games, while Brighton are fifth with 14.

Aaron Ramsdale – 8/10

Had a nervy moment in the first half when he spilt a relatively easy cross and was clattered into by Lewis Dunk. But he recovered well. Made a crucial interception to deny Neal Maupay a goal in the second half.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – 3/10

After a couple of sensational performances in an Arsenal shirt, the Japanese came crashing back down to earth. He was run ragged by Marc Cucurella on the left and was constantly beaten in the air. His distribution also left a lot to be desired.

Kieran Tierney – 5/10

With Arsenal starved of possession in the first half, Kieran Tierney was barely involved in the game. He was caught out of position several times and was lucky not to have been punished. Improved defensively as the game wore on.

Gabriel – 7/10

Was solid at the back for Arsenal and made a few crucial blocks and interceptions to keep Brighton at bay, especially in the first half.

Ben White – 6/10

A solid performance from White against his former club. Made a team-high seven clearances but his distribution was lacking.

Thomas Partey – 4/10

Struggled to impose himself on the game. Made a few important blocks in the first half, but his passing and transition play was well below par. He also found himself in a couple of good shooting positions but blazed his efforts into Row Z.

Albert Sambi Lokonga – 4/10

Replaced the injured Granit Xhaka in the starting lineup, but barely made any impact. With Brighton bossing the midfield, Lokonga spent most of the game chasing shadows.

Martin Odegaard – 4/10

The Norwegian was tidy in possession but did not get enough of the ball to really make an impact.

Bukayo Saka – 7/10

Caused the Brighton defenders, especially Dan Burn, some problems in the first half with his speed and movement. Linked up well with Smith Rowe but lacked end product.

Emile Smith Rowe – 7/10

Probably Arsenal’s best player from an attacking perspective. Whipped in a fantastic cross in the first half which Aubameyang failed to get on the end of. The 21-year-old had a glorious opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the second half but struck his effort straight at Sanchez in the Brighton goal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 2/10

Extremely poor performance from the Arsenal skipper. The Gabon international did not trouble the Brighton defenders with his movement and was a passenger for most of the game. He had a chance to give his side the lead in the first half but his header looped onto the post. Hold-up play was dismal and he constantly coughed up possession.

Substitutes

Nicolas Pepe – 5/10

Replaced Odegaard after the hour mark as Arsenal chased a goal but did not really threaten the Brighton defence.

Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10

Made an instant impact after replacing Aubameyang, dropping deep and linking up play brilliantly.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – NA

Brought on for Saka in stoppage time but did not have enough time to make an impact.
