Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City star Youri Tielemans if he’s available next summer.
Under the tutelage of Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, Youri Tielemans, 24, has established himself as one of Premier League’s top central midfielders. He has become a key cog in Rodgers’ Leicester side over the last two years and helped the midlands club win the FA Cup against Chelsea last season with a thunderous long-range strike.
He has made 117 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions following his loan, and later permanent, switch from AS Monaco 2018. However, the Belgian international has entered the final two years of his contract at the King Power Stadium, and while Leicester want to keep the player at the club having offered him a new deal, he appears to be keeping all his options open.
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid are keen on Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans but will face competition from traditional rivals Barcelona for his signature in 2022.
Los Blancos have started the LaLiga campaign well and find themselves at the top of the table under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, but they fell to a shock 2-1 loss at home to Champions League debutant Sheriff Tiraspol on Tuesday.
Youri Tielemans to Real Madrid—The right fit for the club?
Real Madrid strengthened their midfield unit in the summer with the addition of Eduardo Camavinga from Ligue 1 club Rennes. Camavinga, 18, one of the brightest young talents in European football, has fit in at Real like a glove and has delivered some bright displays already.
However, with Toni Kroos just returning to the team after a long injury layoff and Luka Modric not getting any younger at 36, Ancelotti must look to recruit a midfielder next summer. In that regard, Los Blancos targeting Youri Tielemans is a step in the right direction.
Youri Tielemans is no more a highly-rated talent but a top, established and Premier League proven midfielder now. Primarily a box-to-box midfielder, he can also operate as a deep-lying playmaker or in the no.10 role. The Belgian can dictate the tempo of the game with his short and long passing, game reading and vision.
The former Anderlecht man can go on marauding runs with the ball, thread balls into the striker or even take shots on goal, whilst possessing the experience and genius to create something out of nothing. Tielemans is no slouch defensively and never hesitates to stick his leg out when required.
At 24, the Belgian international certainly has his best years ahead of him and he could be a fine fit in the Real Madrid team, perhaps as a long-term replacement for the ageing Modric. Thus, Madrid must do everything in their power to beat Barcelona to Tielemans’ signature next summer.
