Southampton Eyeing A Move For Promising Chelsea Frontman: Shrewd Option For Hasenhuttl

Southampton could make a move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season. Abraham has come through the ranks at Chelsea, making 82 appearances for the senior team.

As per TalkSport, the Saints are trying to bring Abraham on loan from the Blues. Southampton recently sold their first-choice striker Danny Ings to Aston Villa and they are on the hunt for a new striker.

Tammy Abraham has also been tracked by Arsenal, West Ham United, and Aston Villa, although Villa may not make a move for him now following the signing of Ings. The Chelsea forward has scored 30 goals and assisted 12 times in his Chelsea career. He has two years remaining on his current deal.

Tammy Abraham: A good replacement for Ings?

Southampton will be keen to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season and replace their topscorer of the last two seasons, Danny Ings. The Saints were dependent on Ings in attack and whoever takes his place in the team will have big shoes to fill.

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham could be a good addition to the Southampton attack as the young Englishman has the experience and goalscoring ability to replace Ings. The 23-year-old is a lanky forward who is a decent finisher in and around the penalty area. Abraham is a hard-working striker who presses from the top, drops deep to link play with his attacking midfielders, and tries to get on the end of crosses in the box.

Abraham is a composed forward who isn’t unfazed while through on goal and likes to take responsibility when his side are under the pump. He also does not shy away from attempting to dribble past his opponent when one-on-one with them.

The Englishman had a solid first full season with the Chelsea senior team, scoring 18 goals in the 2019-20 campaign. He had fewer opportunities last season, but still racked up 12 goals in all competitions. Abraham has shown composure and good finishing ability in his two Premier League seasons. The young attacker has solid Premier League experience, while he has also played for the England senior team, which could allow him to be the focal point of the Saints attack.

He could form a decent partnership with Saints striker Che Adams, who is quick and likes to take on defenders. The pairing of Adams and Abraham could work well for Southampton and their manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as they are two contrasting strikers. The Saints will find it tough to replace a goalscoring machine like Danny Ings, but Abraham has the qualities to score aplenty and is a player Southampton can surely take a chance on.
