Newcastle United Show Interest In Experienced Serie A Midfielder: Should Bruce Make A Move?

Newcastle United are the latest club to show interest in Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The former Arsenal man has played over 60 times for Juve since joining the club in 2019.

Goal have reported that the Magpies have enquired about the 30-year-old midfielder, but the negotiations so far have been informal. Several clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Welshman, including Wolves, who were linked with him recently.

Ramsey has two years remaining on his current deal at the club. The Wales international has played 65 times for the club and has scored 6 goals. Ramsey joined Juventus on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Aaron Ramsey: Should the Magpies go all out?

Aaron Ramsey has had a difficult spell for Juve as injuries and a lack of opportunities have hurt his career in Italy. The experienced midfielder showed glimpses of his class at Euro 2020 and has shown that he still has what it takes to be successful at the top.

Ramsey could be a sensational addition to the Newcastle United squad as he would bring energy, experience, goals, and creativity in the final third. The Welshman loves to dribble at opponents and link up play between midfield and attack with his quick passing. A versatile player, Ramsey is capable of playing in a number of positions, centrally and out wide.

Newcastle United have been quiet in the transfer market and are yet to sign any player ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season. The Magpies need to add a few players to their squad or run the risk of a relegation battle. Midfield is one area that they will need to bolster, especially in central midfield and attacking roles.

In the centre of the pitch, manager Steve Bruce has Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, and Jonjo Shelvey to choose from ahead of the new season, while Jeff Hendrick can also play that role. But, none of them have been consistent or provided a spark in midfield. Aaron Ramsey could slot into midfield alongside a more defensive-minded player and dictate the tempo and pace of the game, while also creating attacks.

He could also be given more freedom by being moved further forward as a No. 10 or out wide. Ramsey could be given the freedom to express himself in attacking areas and he could form a decent partnership with Allan Saint-Maximin, who is by far the Magpies’ best attacker, shouldering almost all of the attacking responsibility for his team.

The biggest sticking point in this transfer, however, will be Steve Bruce and Newcastle United’s ability to convince a top player like Ramsey to move, with the Premier League side struggling to impose themselves in the league for a few years now but it would be a shame if the club did not at least try to get this transfer going.
