Man United Linked With Surprise Move For Former Club Superstar: Will A Move Make Sense?

Manchester United could have a chance of bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. Ronaldo joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2018 and his contract with the Italian giant expires next year.

As per La Repubblica, Ronaldo’s huge wages are a problem for Juventus, who have been hit hard financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Juve and Ronaldo are reportedly trying to work out a deal that will see him leave the club this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Serie A twice since moving to Juve, and has scored 101 goals in 133 appearances for the club. The Portuguese ace spent six seasons at Manchester United where he won the Premier League on three occasions and the Champions League once.

Cristiano Ronaldo Links: Should they go down the road again?

Cristiano Ronaldo will go down in Manchester United history as one of their greats, helping United to a number of trophies and wowing the Old Trafford faithful. The 36-year-old took his performances to the next level at Real Madrid and has continued to score bucket loads of goals at Juve too.

But, Manchester United re-signing him may not be a good move for the club at the moment.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently building a young team that could be a force to reckon with in the coming days. United have lavish attacking riches presently with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes, as well as decent squad players in Anthony Martial and Daniel James.

The signing of Ronaldo will halt the progress of the likes of Rashford, Sancho or Greenwood, who will have to step back for Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward has predominantly played as a central striker in recent years, which is a position that is currently occupied by Cavani, Greenwood and Martial. Cavani will likely leave at the end of next season, which will result in Greenwood being United’s No. 1 choice.

The 19-year-old is a generational talent who could go on to have a fantastic Manchester United career and must be given game time up front. Cristiano Ronaldo will command huge wages, which could rather be invested in a younger player, or better yet, in signing a forward like Erling Haaland, who will be available at bargain next summer.

The signing of Ronaldo will probably give the fans a huge boost, but it wouldn’t make sense for United on the financial books or for the development of their young attacking stars, who have been improving steadily in recent seasons.
