Manchester United eye a transfer for Premier League ace: The plan B Solskjaer needs?

Manchester United could make a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer. The Englishman joined Everton for a small fee of £1.5 million in 2016 and has gone on to make over 170 appearances for the club, scoring 53 goals and assisting 15 times.

As per The Sun, the Red Devils see Calvert-Lewin as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left the club in 2019. Arsenal is also interested in the 24-year-old, while former Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring Calvert-Lewin to Real Madrid.

The Everton forward has four years remaining on his current deal at the club, having signed a new deal last year. Calvert-Lewin had his best season last time around as he scored 21 times in all competitions for Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Manchester United – The plan B Solskjaer needs?

Manchester United have finally wrapped up the signing of Jadon Sancho, who will give manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer an array of options in attack. Solskjaer will have Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani, and Anthony Martial to call upon in attack next season.

The likes of Juan Mata, Daniel James and Amad Diallo could also be used. Solskjaer has a number of options in attack, but he will have to decide who plays up top.

Cavani signed a one-year extension earlier this year and it’s unlikely that he’ll stay for another year, while Greenwood is still too young to be tasked with the duty of being United’s first-choice striker. Rashford has thrived out wide rather than centrally, while Martial has struggled with injuries and poor form and United could finally let him go.

That opens up the possibility of Manchester United signing a top-quality striker. The likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, whom United have been linked with in the past, maybe too expensive for the Red Devils. The Premier League side will have to strengthen other key areas of the pitch, like central defence and central midfield, so they will have to chase a striker who isn’t as expensive as Kane or Haaland.

Calvert-Lewin could be a useful signing for Manchester United as he has shown great promise over the last two seasons for Everton and England. The 24-year-old is a strong and powerful forward who is superb in the air, winning an average of 4.7 aerial duels in the league last season.

The Everton striker is a hard-working forward who presses high up the pitch, while also being a neat finisher. He is still young and improving, and could add a lot more goals to his tally playing around talented wingers like Sancho and Rashford.

He would give the Manchester United manager to play more direct football and change things around when it’s not going in United’s favour. Calvert-Lewin fits the mould of young, English players that Solskjaer has targeted in recent seasons, and would be a sensible addition to the United squad.
