Liverpool Eye A Swoop For Serie A Midfield Engine: Excellent Option For Klopp

Liverpool could make a move for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie in the current transfer window. The Ivorian moved to the Italian club in 2019 after spending two years on loan with them before that.

As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Milan and Kessie haven’t agreed on a new deal yet as the player wants a bonus to be included in his contract. Kessie’s current deal expires next summer. The report claims that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Kessie, while other clubs are also reportedly interested in signing him.

Franck Kessie wants a contract worth €6 million per year, a significant jump from the €2.2 million that he reportedly earns now. The Ivory Coast international is currently with his national team in Japan to take part in the Olympics.

Franck Kessie: A top midfield option for Klopp?

Franck Kessie has transformed into a top-class midfielder over the last few seasons at AC Milan. He had his best season yet last time around, scoring 13 goals and providing 4 assists in 37 league games. The Ivorian was a constant fixture in the Milan midfield and provided energy, aggression, and goals from the middle of the park.

Kessie is a player who links midfield with attack with his passing, as well as his runs from midfield. The Ivorian averaged 2.8 long balls per game in the league last season, while also taking 1.3 shots on goal per game. Kessie is also useful defensively and is a hard-working player who drops back and provides cover to his backline. He averaged 1.4 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game in the league last season.

Kessie is an all-round midfielder who likes to sit deep, win the ball back, and move forward whenever he has the opportunity to. The Ivorian could be a good signing for Liverpool, who have yet to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who left the club at the end of last season. Kessie could replace the goals and work-rate that the Dutchman offered, while also offering more defensively.

Kessie is just 24 years of age, but has played a lot of football for his club and country, and can grow further as a footballer. He could be a good fit alongside Fabinho, who is a defensive rock, and Thiago, who is a superb passer. Kessie’s energy and strength in defence, and goals from midfield, would be a huge boon to the Liverpool midfield. The Milan midfielder would fit in well in manager Jurgen Klopp’s tactics and style of play and would give the German manager more options.
