Aston Villa could make a move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey this summer. The 23-year-old has been with the German club since 2017, scoring 39 goals and providing 26 assists in 156 appearances for them.
As per Daily Mail, Bailey could be available for a fee of £25 million to £30 million this summer. The report claims that Villa could sell Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi to make way for Bailey or some other attacker. He had joined Leverkusen from Genk for a fee of €20 million in 2017.
The Jamaican international’s current contract with Leverkusen is set to expire in 2023. In the 2020-21 season, Leon Bailey scored 9 goals and provided 8 assists in 30 league appearances for Leverkusen.
Should Aston Villa go all out for Leon Bailey?
Aston Villa have been active in the transfer market ahead of the 2021-22 season, re-signing veteran player Ashley Young, as well as Norwich City’s young attacking sensation, Emiliano Buendia. Young would offer options in either full-back or wing positions, while Buendia will play on the right side of the attack.
Leon Bailey could be an exciting addition to the Aston Villa team, and make the Villans even stronger going forward. The Jamaican is a speedy winger who has the ability to dribble past opposition defenders. He loves taking on defenders using his speed, dribbling ability and close control to enter the final third of the pitch. He averaged 2.5 dribbles per game for Leverkusen last season in the Bundesliga.
The left-footed winger is supremely quick with the ball at his feet and also likes to put in crosses from the wide areas, averaging 1.6 long balls and 1.3 crosses per game.
Leon Bailey is capable of playing in a number of positions and roles for his team. He has been primarily used on the left side as part of a front three, or a little deeper as a left-sided midfielder. The Jamaican is also capable of playing on the other side of the pitch as well.
The 23-year-old would be a sensational addition to the Aston Villa side and make them a deadly attacking unit. Villa should try and sign Bailey even if they retain Grealish as he would add depth and quality to the Villa squad.
Aston Villa could have a front four consisting of two new, exciting, and young wingers in Baily and Buendia, who could play on either side and interchange. Ollie Watkins, who led the line so well for Villa last year, will spearhead the attack for the Villans. Jack Grealish could be the link that holds the attack together with his clever passing and dribbling in the No. 10 role.
The players behind Watkins can all interchange and their creativity and dribbling could make Villa an exciting side to watch. With Trezeguet injured and El Ghazi possibly on the transfer market, signing a player like Leon Bailey gains new significance for Aston Villa.
