West Ham United are closely monitoring James Tarkowski’s situation at Burnley and could make a move for him this summer.
David Moyes is looking to strengthen his squad as he prepares to compete in the Europa League next season. West Ham had an impressive 2020-21 season, and need a strong summer transfer window to ensure they improve their squad and don’t drop off next season.
According to The Telegraph, West Ham United are keen on bringing Burnley’s James Tarkowski to the London Stadium this summer in a bid to bolster their defence.
This is not the first time that they have been linked with Tarkowski. Last summer, the Hammers were interested in signing him but failed to reach an agreement with the Clarets.
The 28-year old is set to enter into the final year of his contract at Burnley. It would not be a sensible move by the club if they decide to let him go on a free transfer next year. The funds they receive from his sale will help them to recruit a good replacement and this summer seems to be the last opportunity to do so unless the player decides to stay on for longer.
James Tarkowski to West Ham– A smashing move by Moyes?
James Tarkowski is a proven Premier League defender. Sean Dyche has been credited with keeping Burnley in the top-flight over the years even after having very little financial backing in the transfer market. The English defender has played a pivotal role in stabilising the defence under his guidance. He has played more than 30 games in each of the previous four league campaigns.
At the age of 28, he is at the prime of his career and will be a great boost to West Ham’s squad. David Moyes is aware that he needs reinforcements in the backline after releasing Fabian Balbuena. By Bringing in Tarkowski, he will not only be adding a robust defender but also gain a leader at the back. His experience will force him straight into the starting lineup alongside Angelo Ogbonna or Issa Diop.
Moving to the London club will also be an enticing option for the English defender. He will get the chance to experience European football and will aim to try for another top-six league finish rather than fight to stay in the Premier League. James Tarkowski still has a good 3-4 years at the top and will be a bedrock for West Ham in defence. This is a signing West Ham should definitely make as quickly as possible.
