Manchester City eye a mega player plus cash deal for forward: Right move by the club?

Manchester City are reportedly willing to sell Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling join Tottenham Hotspur in a bid to sign Harry Kane.

Kane seems set to leave his boyhood club, where he has made more than 300 appearances in all competitions, and racking up 221 goals in the process.

As per The Times, Manchester City are ready to launch a bid of more than £100 million for the 27-year-old forward, while they could also include Jesus or Sterling in the deal.

The report further states that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not accept the fee that Manchester City are willing to fork out.

Kane has won numerous individual accolades for club and country, but is yet to win any trophy with Spurs or England. He is the second-highest all-time goal-scorer for Spurs, 45 goals behind Jimmy Greaves.

A mega-money deal for Harry Kane – The right choice by Manchester City?

Manchester City are in the market to sign a centre-forward following the departure of iconic forward Sergio Aguero. The Premier League champions have a fantastic midfield and good options out wide, and are looking good at the back following Ruben Dias’ impressive displays last season.

The absence of a prolific forward after Aguero’s departure seems to be the only gaping hole in the City squad with Gabriel Jesus – their only natural striker – not passing muster.

Manager Pep Guardiola rotated quite a bit last season and even played midfielders as a false nine. The signing of Harry Kane would strengthen City in that position and make them favourites to retain the Premier League title and maybe even pass the final hurdle in Europe. City should go all-out to sign Kane as they may not need to sign world-class players in other positions.

Manchester City’s decision to put Gabriel Jesus on the transfer market is a sound decision as the 24-year-old hasn’t really settled in due to being in and out of the team. The Brazilian has a decent record for a No. 2 forward, scoring 82 goals in 196 appearances. But, Jesus may be unhappy at being sparingly used last season and with Guardiola not trusting him, it would seem like a good move for all parties if he left the club.

But, City should not allow Raheem Sterling to leave the club. The Englishman has been a key player for the Premier League club over the last few seasons, as he has added consistency to his game and has scored vital goals.

Sterling has racked up 114 goals and 88 assists in 292 games for the club and helped them to three Premier League titles. The emergence of Phil Foden and his own poor form resulted in a poor 2020-21 season for him.

But with City not having many world-class options on the left side of attack and Guardiola’s men chasing all trophies, it wouldn’t be a wise move to allow Sterling to leave.
