Leicester City reportedly closing in on 34-goal ace: The perfect addition to the squad?

Leicester City are closing on their summer transfer target Patson Daka as they look to add more quality to their attack.

The Foxes have a great scouting team that is known for finding young talented players and turning them into world-beaters. The likes of Jamie Vardy, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Harry Maguire, Caglar Soyuncu and Ben Chilwell are just a few of the names who belong to the list.

It looks like they are going to sign another young player who is bound to have a great future. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka will be joining the Leicester City squad this summer.

The club have accepted the bid and Leicester will be making the official announcement next week. The Foxes were not the only team who were interesting in acquiring Daka’s services.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool were also linked with a move. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side have been able to convince the player to join their ranks.

Would Patson Daka be the perfect addition to Leicester City?

The former Liverpool manager deployed two strikers up front in the latter half of last season. Jamie Vardy is no longer at the prime of his career, though, and at 34, the manager cannot expect his talisman to keep delivering week in week out.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s lethal form guided Leicester to the FA Cup triumph and a fifth-spot finish in the league. However, there are still plenty of doubts if the Nigerian international can replicate that form next season.

Patson Daka is one of the bright talents of the Austrian Bundesliga. The 22-year old enjoyed a sumptuous 2020/21 campaign for Salzburg, scoring 34 goals and providing 12 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

The prolific goalscorer was also named the player of the season in Austria. He can play up top with Vardy and provide the Foxes with a strong attacking threat. In front of the goal, the Zambian international is recognised for his clinical finishing and calm demeanour.

Even at this age, he has the magnificent sense of making the right runs. He never switches off and looks to makes things difficult for the defenders with his movement and directness.

The Foxes have missed out on the top-four spots twice in as many seasons. The manager needs to add more depth to his side so that a few injuries do not derail their season. If Daka can adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, he would be a great addition to Leicester City.
