Chelsea could sign goal-machine for a club-record fee: Can he turn them into title contenders?

Chelsea are in the running to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, and the Blues could break their club-record fee bring him to Stamford Bridge. Haaland has been prolific Borussia Dortmund in the one-and-a-half seasons that he has played for them.

As per journalist and former Norway international Jan Age Fjørtoft, Chelsea feel that Haaland is the “missing player” in their squad to take them to a Premier League title. He states that Chelsea feels that the only hindrance that they have in signing Haaland is their current wage structure.

Haaland seems to be the target of many clubs in the world and has been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United in the past.

The 20-year-old has scored 57 goals and made 15 assists in 59 games for the German club. His current contract with the club expires in 2024.

Can Erling Haaland turn Chelsea into Premier League title contenders?

Erling Haaland has taken the world by storm ever since he signed for Borussia Dortmund in January 2020. The Norwegian made the transition to German football rather smoothly in his very first season and replicated and bettered his performances in his second season with the club.

Haaland is a quick, tall and strong striker who can run in behind defences, using his pace and strength to brush off opponents. He has also shown that he is capable of holding the ball down and linking up with teammates, and dropping deep into midfield to make things happen for his team.

The Norway international is surprisingly quick for a player who stands at 6’4″, while his composure in the penalty box has helped him score plenty of goals. Haaland has a strong left foot, capable of shooting with power and accuracy. He is an all-round player who can do a bit of everything and is bound to grow as a striker as he is just 20 years of age.

Erling Haaland would be a sensational addition to the Chelsea lineup. The Blues have a number of options in midfield, defensively and in attack, but there is still some uncertainty in the striker position.

Timo Werner, who was expected to lead the line for the Premier League and score bucketloads of goals hasn’t quite adapted to the English game. The Blues, who have been ruthless in the past, will not hesitate in dropping a player that cost them almost £50 million just last year.

The addition of Erling Haaland could be the final piece of the puzzle and could make the Blues one of the favourites to win the Premier League. Haaland has shown that he is not overawed by playing in front of big crowds or against the best in Europe.

He would slot in seamlessly in the Chelsea starting XI and link up well with attackers like Pulisic, Mount, Havertz and co. – a scary prospect for Chelsea’s rivals in the Premier League.
