28 Goals In The Bundesliga: Should Arsenal Go All Out For Their Summer Transfer Target?

Arsenal are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva.

While Arteta might not be handed a big transfer kitty, there are expected to be significant changes in the squad after a dismal campaign, which was somewhat salvaged towards the business end of the season. Winning their last five Premier League games saw Arsenal manage to finish in the 8th spot. Their league position could have been a lot worse if not for the late resurgence in form.

According to The Express, Arsenal have opened talks with the German club in order to acquire the services of Andre Silva who has been in red-hot form this past season. The 25-year old bagged 28 goals and provided five assists in 32 Bundesliga games. A season-long display that saw his club come agonizingly close to Champions League qualification. His goal tally is even better than that of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who hogged all the limelight in the recently concluded season.

Coming to Arsenal, the club futures of Hector Bellerin, Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are up in the air. Lacazette might be a surprising name on this list for a few. Even when his team struggled massively, Lacazette managed to score 13 goals in 31 English top-flight games last season. The 30-year-old has been a fine performer for Gunners. However, to help the club become competitive once again, Mikel Arteta needs more than just a fine player who performs in spurts.

Is Andre Silva the answer to Arsenal’s goal-scoring woes?

One of the primary reasons why the Gunners struggled this past season was their inability to score goals in large numbers. They managed to score only 55 goals in the domestic league. Apart from Everton, every club that finished in the top half of the table found the back of the net more times than Arsenal.

Andre Silva’s recent blistering form suggests that the lean patch of his career is over. He had underwhelming spells at AC Milan and Sevilla but those seasons are now a thing of the past. The Portuguese international has sharpened his skills in front of the goal. His finishing has significantly improved, as has his ability to make runs behind the defence. He is not a player who will provide a high work rate but will finish most of the half-chances provided to him.

Thanks to his standout season, his value has shot up to £40.50 million on the Transfermarkt website. If Lacazette is allowed to make an exit, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the only remaining proven centre-forward for the Gunners.

Gabriel Martinelli and Florian Balogun are two exciting prospects but they still need to gain experience before getting a regular starting position. The arrival of Andre Silva will definitely help Arteta to bolster his attacking arsenal and is a sort of signing which can indeed rejuvenate a dwindling attack that has the talent but seems to be lacking aal Eyeing A Mo cutting edge.
