Van de Beek to Start: Team News, Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs AS Roma

Manchester United will travel to Stadio Olimpico for the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals against AS Roma later tonight.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thrashed the Italian outfit 6-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford, and already have one foot in the final. Manchester United look set to make their way into the final of the competition, unless Roma conjure an incredible second-leg comeback.

Solskjaer has stressed that the tie is far from over, but with games coming thick and fast, he might opt to rest a few individuals.

Manchester United Team News

The Red Devils have already revealed their 24-man travelling squad. Anthony Martial and Phil Jones continue to nurse their injuries. It has to be seen whether any of these two could make a return to fitness before the end of the season.

Wales international Daniel James has also not travelled with the side due to an injury he picked up recently. Other than these three players, the manager has a full squad to choose from.

Defence

David De Gea should retain his spot between the sticks for this crucial tie.

Eric Bailly hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since the last international break. With three games in five days for the club, the Norwegian might rest Victor Lindelof and partner Bailly with Harry Maguire.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to start the game, and if the scoreline favours the visitors, Brandon Williams might replace him in the second half.

Alex Telles deserves more minutes on the pitch. This is a perfect game for the manager to rest Luke Shaw and hand Telles a start.

Midfield

Whenever Solskjaer wants to preserve the lead, he sends Nemanja Matic on to the pitch. The Serbian midfielder should play in place of Fred in the Manchester United lineup.

Paul Pogba knows what it’s like to play football in Italy. He could partner Matic in the midfield to add more physicality at the centre of the park.

No one deserves a rest more than Bruno Fernandes. Donny Van De Beek will be hoping that he gets a rare start against Roma tonight.

Attack

Edinson Cavani was exceptional in the first leg of this round. He was directly involved in five of the six goals United scored in their stunning 6-2 victory. An early goal at Stadio Olimpico from the visitors could put the game to bed.

The veteran striker will have the support of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, who will look to exploit spaces in Roma’s defence with their breakneck pace.
