According to Goal, West Ham United are keeping tabs on the performances of Yangel Herrera and might look to sign the midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window. Yangel Herrera is a Manchester City player who is currently playing for the La Liga club, Granada, as a loanee. The Venezuela international has been applauded for his performances this season. His displays are one of the primary reasons why Granada are having a very successful season by their standards.
The club has enjoyed success both in the domestic league and in the European competition. Granada gained promotion to La Liga in 2019 and are currently placed in the 9th position. They have made it to the Quarterfinals of the Europa League where they fell to a 0-2 defeat to Manchester United in the first leg of the tie.
Yangel Herrera has been a Manchester City player since 2017 but is yet to make his debut for them. He has had loan spells with New York City FC and SD Huesca previously.
His two-year loan spell with Granada is going to conclude this summer and Manchester City are planning to recall the South American back into their squad to have a closer look at his prospects at the club. Other Premier League clubs like West Ham and Southampton have also been impressed by his development and are pondering over a move to sign him.
Can Yangel Herrera improve West Ham?
West Ham are enjoying a stunning season under David Moyes. The Hammers are placed at the 4th spot on the league table, above Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. New arrivals such as Tomas Soucek and loan-success Jesse Lingard are helping the already established players to take the club to the elite European competition next season.
West Ham have very little depth in central midfield positions, though. Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are the only three senior players on the roster David Moyes can realistically choose from.
The arrival of Yangel Herrera will certainly give much-needed depth to the Hammers’ squad. Herrera likes to play as a defensive midfielder but is capable of playing in slightly advanced positions as well. He is a very strong tackler of the ball and wins most of his duels. He is an amazing reader of the game and can spread the ball forward from midfield.
There is no doubt that Herrera’s arrival will make Moyes’ team even stronger. West Ham should be going ahead in their pursuit to sign him. If Manchester City are not willing to sell the player permanently, they should at least put forward a loan option for the midfielder. A loan deal will help West Ham see if the player can fit their style of play.
It will be a win-win for all parties as City can gauge his development going by his performances at a top-half side in the Premier League as well.
