On Saturday, Manchester City will play Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The Cityzens have won four straight games in all competitions since their defeat to Manchester United. They will be desperate to avenge the 2-5 thrashing Leicester City handed them early on in the season.
The Foxes are looking for their third successive league win. The match-up promises to be a tactical and closely fought fight between two high-quality teams.
Let us take a look at three things which will be interesting to look forward to when Leicester host Manchester City.
Midfield action
There will be an abundance of technical quality on display in the midfield area with the likes of De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva for Man City and Youri Tielemans, Ndidi for Leicester City. The Sky Blues will have the lion’s share of possession, as usual. It will be upon Ndidi and Tielemans to intercept the attacking movement of Man City and initiate counter-attacks.
Both managers know each other very well and it should be a spectacle to witness for the neutrals. Especially in the midfield, it will be a great watch. Pep is known to overload the centre of the pitch while in possession of the ball with fullbacks moving infield. Brendan Rodgers will definitely come up with a plan to try and disrupt that action.
While the Sky Blues definitely look the better team on paper, the same team with the same characteristics were defeated by a vibrant counter-attacking Leicester City.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s form
Kelechi Iheanacho, who is in the form of his life will be looking to perform against his former club. He has scored seven goals in four games and re-energized Leicester at a time when injuries and goal-scoring form of Vardy were starting to affecting them.
Pep has always found it hard to contain Jamie Vardy and will now be tasked with dealing with another threat in the form of an in-form Kelechi.
Iheanacho’s potential was widely known since his teenage days. The capacity is now being realized in top-flight football. This season, he has a strike rate that is better than the leading strikers in the Premier League.
It will be a fascinating battle between Jamie Vardy paired with Iheanacho against John Stones and Ruben Dias.
Manchester City Wingers vs Leicester City Full backs
Mahrez, Sterling, Foden, and Torres are all available for selection. Two out of these four will definitely start for Manchester City and bring with them an abundance of pace and guile.
They are efficient in cutting inside from their respective wings and deliver crosses or even take a shot at goal. Leicester City will have a hard time keeping up with the movement of the City wingers.
Brendan Rodgers may continue his formation with three centre-backs and two full-backs to push the opposition high up the pitch and look to snatch possession and hit the star-studded City side on the break, something which has worked marvellously for him before as well.
