Chelsea have been linked with a move to sign Paulo Dybala as manager Thomas Tuchel wants to bolster his attack this summer to mount a strong title challenge next season.
According to Tuttosport, Chelsea will compete with Manchester United to sign the Juventus forward. Under Andrea Pirlo’s reign as Juventus’ manager, Dybala has struggled to find sufficient minutes on the pitch.
He was one of the best attackers in the Italian top-flight last season. Yet, he has failed to force his way into Pirlo’s plans on a regular basis. Due to Covid-19 and other injuries issues as well, the Argentina international has missed some games, and has struggled to find any rhythm being in and out of the team.
Paulo Dybala is entering into the final year of his contract with Juventus. The club must determine whether they want to sell the player or offer a new deal. If none of this happens, Dybala will leave the club as a free agent in 2022.
Juventus reported a loss of £99 million in 2020 due to coronavirus pandemic. With the Bianconeri looking more and more unlikely to win the Scudetto this season, they may have to sell a few players to add fresh faces to the squad. Thus, the Old Lady might look to sell Dybala, who has not made a big enough impact.
Does signing Paulo Dybala makes sense for Chelsea?
Chelsea had a big summer of investment in the summer of 2020 and brought in attacking players like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz to Stamford Bridge. But, the trio has failed to impress on a consistent basis. Thomas Tuchel has done a fine job since his arrival but these three players still need to step up.
Getting Paulo Dybala will increase the competition but at the same time, there will be too many players in the same position. If Tuchel uses Dybala as a number nine, then Werner and Tammy Abraham will find it tough to have the playing time they desire. Regardless, the out and out number nine role does not suit Dybala.

Kai Havertz and Mason Mount will be forced to leave their preferred roles if he is signed and used in an attacking midfield role. Mount and Havertz have done well in the attacking midfield roles, so signing Dybala to play him behind the striker could upset an already well-oiled setup.
With Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea have enough talent to put on either flank as well. If the Blues want to improve somewhere, they could sign a central midfielder who can also make late runs into the box.
A defender should also be on Chelsea’s wish list as the Blues lack world-class players at the back. Dybala on his day is a good player, but Chelsea are better off without him, unless of course, they can get rid of some players first.
