Chelsea Linked With A Big Money Move For Serie A Superstar: Right Option For Tuchel?

Roman Abramovich-owned Chelsea are looking to re-sign Romelu Lukaku in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to a story in Dailymail, Chelsea are looking for a new striker and one of their prime targets is the 27-year old Belgian striker.

Erling Haaland is another name on Chelsea’s list but they are aware that every big European club is looking for his signature. Haaland is Borussia Dortmund’s most prized asset. Thus, they won’t be willing to sell the player for any sum less than £150 million which has got Chelsea into expanding their horizon when it comes to more realistic options to consider.

Romelu Lukaku is currently playing for Inter Milan and having another stunning season. He has helped the Nerazzurri to remain at the summit of the Serie A table, six points ahead of AC Milan. But Inter Milan are battling against the negative financial implications due to Covid-19. This can force the Italian club to cash in on their leading striker. He might be available for a fee of around £100 million which is much less than what Dortmund will ask if at all they allow Haaland to leave.

Romelu Lukaku: Good decision to head back to Stamford Bridge?

Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea as an 18-year-old back in 2011. He was considered to be the heir to Didier Drogba’s throne but soon Chelsea lost their trust in him. He was loaned to West Bromwich Albion and then to Everton. Even after having successful loan stints, Chelsea failed to give him enough opportunities.

Manchester United signed him from Everton in 2017 for a fee of £75 million. He scored 42 goals for the Red Devils and became the youngest non-English player to score 100 Premier League goals. In 2019, he joined Inter Milan and since then his career has taken off. This season he has 19 goals and recorded 8 assists in just 26 games. In fact, he has the most goal involvements (27) in Serie A this campaign.

Chelsea opted to sign Timo Werner for £53 million last summer but he has scored a mere five goals for the Blues and has looked completely lost at Stamford Bridge. Olivier Giroud has four goals to his name. Chelsea needs a striker who can score at least 20 goals in a season if they want to challenge for Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku has a proven track record in the Premier League and with experience has become a much more well-rounded player. With the support of other attacking talents in Chelsea’s squad, he can prove to be a lethal weapon for Thomas Tuchel. By adding his services to the arsenal they possess, Chelsea can potentially be a sound title-challenger next season.
