No Contract Talks Yet With French Superstar: Should Manchester United Look To Sell?

The future of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is still uncertain, as the Frenchman enters the final year of his contract. As per Daily Star, Manchester United and Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, have not yet sat down to hash out a new contract for the World Cup-winning midfielder.

The report reveals that the club have not been told what Paul Pogba’s future plans are. Pogba will be allowed to leave on a free transfer next summer, and other clubs will be allowed to hold discussions with the player starting next January.

He hasn’t played since the first week of February, after hobbling off before half-time in the game against Everton due to a hamstring injury. The Frenchman had put in a string of good performances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side before being injured once again.

Paul Pogba: Should United sell in the summer?

The Paul Pogba contract saga seems set to be one of the big talking points yet again. Raiola had previously indicated that his client wants a change of scenery, which sparked a lot of criticism against the way of the Frenchman.

Pogba, over the last few months, has shown that he can make a big impact on the current Manchester United squad, not just as an inventive, creative midfielder, but also as a leader on and off the pitch. The Frenchman has qualities that no other central midfielder in United has, and on his day, can be one of the best midfielders in the world.

But, the Red Devils have to put a lid on the Pogba contract issue. If the Frenchman isn’t willing to sign a new deal, the Premier League side should find him a new club and use the money to buy a replacement and strengthen other areas of the pitch. Manchester United should not allow the Frenchman to leave on a free transfer as they should try to recoup at least a portion of the £89.3 million they splashed out to sign him in 2016.

The Red Devils, like most football clubs in the world, have been hit hard financially by the COVID-19 pandemic, which means that they may not have a lot of money to spend. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to get rid of a few players to bring in new ones, and Pogba could very well be one of the outgoings if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

But, if Pogba decides to stay, it will be a shot in the arm for Solskjaer and Manchester United, and they could build further to bridge the gap with Manchester City at the top of the table.
