Transfer Rumours

Manchester United eye cut-price move for Bundesliga superstar: A no-brainer for Ole?

Jadon Sancho’s name is back in the transfer pages as EuroSport hints at a potential £50m transfer offer lined up for the player in the summer.

Manchester United had earmarked Jadon Sancho as their prime target last summer but had to face disappointment as Borussia Dortmund proposed a record-breaking transfer fee of £120m. What ensued was a summer-long saga but the two clubs failed to meet on common ground thus leaving Sancho in Germany and United light up front.

Manchester United took a gamble and withdrew from the offer then, with the feeling that Sancho could be available at a much lower price. With the ongoing issues at Borussia Dortmund, it seems almost certain that they would be willing to sell two or three players in the upcoming transfer window.

This can pave the way for United to come up with an opportunistic offer and try to add Sancho to the squad. Jadon Sancho did agree to personal terms with United in the past which shows that he is interested in a switch from Bundesliga to the Premier League.

A No-brainer for Ole for this price

Manchester United’s wish to bolster their right flank was known to all and their failure to do so was also well documented.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried different players and combinations on the right flank as a result but none of the players has managed to stake a long-term claim on the position. Currently, it is rotated between Mason Greenwood, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford.

Rashford prefers to play on the left-wing which helps him to cut inside and influence play more centrally. Mason Greenwood’s best position is still undecided and while he has shown excellent shooting prowess, his all-round game has failed to convince his manager regarding his credentials as the first choice right-winger.

Daniel James has been exclusively used only in games where Ole has employed a one-dimensional counter-attacking strategy and while he has worked his socks off, has failed to produce returns in the attacking third.

Jadon Sancho, meanwhile, struggled for form at the beginning of the season but has managed to bounce back and is enjoying a decent spell now. While current stats of 8 goals and 13 assists in 26 matches will not help him fetch a record-breaking transfer fee for his club, sources suggest that £50 million would be a decent offer for Dortmund to consider given their weak financial condition.

Jadon Sancho, who turns 21 on March 25,  is expected to take a call sooner rather than later and a return to England looks imminent.

Manchester United, who have been slowly but surely rebuilding under Solskjaer, will be the favourites to get this deal done and would like to offer a 5-year contract to the English star. Both Sancho and United are in chase of trophies, so, it would be a perfect fit for both parties to make the move happen as soon as possible.
