Chelsea have decided to sack Frank Lampard as their manager following an indifferent run of results.
Lampard was hired by the club in the summer of 2019, and did well to steer the club into a Champions League position that season.
The Blues went on a summer splurge in 2020, signing the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Thiago Silva. However, after a bright start to the season, Chelsea have struggled for consistency.
The expensive summer signings failed to impress under Lampard, and that could be one of the main reasons behind his departure.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich released a statement that read:
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.
“ He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.”
Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League, and need a good second half of the season to finish in the Champions League spots.
