Leeds United were humbled by Leicester City last time around as the Whites lost the third game of their season. Marcelo Bielsa’s men will square off against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, which will be the first time these two sides will face each other since 2013.
The last time these two sides met in the Premier League was over two decades ago in 1998. Both teams are on 10 points after playing seven games, with three wins, a draw and three losses.
Leeds United Team Team News
Bielsa will miss out on a few key players for the game against Palace. Kalvin Phillips, Diego Llorente and Adam Forshaw are still out due to injury, while Raphinha will have a late fitness test. Another summer signing, Rodrigo, will miss the game as he is self-isolating.
Let’s take a look at the possible Leeds United lineup for the game against Crystal Palace:
Predicted Leeds United Lineup vs Crystal Palace
Goalkeeper
Illan Meslier will play in goal for the Whites against Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Frenchman had a tough outing against Leicester City, and will hope he is protected better by his defence against Palace.
Defence
We could see an unchanged backline from the 4-1 loss to Leicester City last weekend. Robin Koch and captain Liam Cooper should start as the two central defenders in the Leeds United lineup, while Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas should continue at right-back and left-back, respectively. The likes of Pascal Struijk and Ezgjan Alioski are other options for Bielsa at the back.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips’ absence means that Mateusz Klich will likely play in the defence midfield role. Struijk is another option in that position for Bielsa.
Jamie Shackleton played only the first half of the loss against Leicester and it’ll be interesting to see if Bielsa will start him again. But Bielsa doesn’t have other options in the midfield area due to injuries to players. Shackleton may be given another chance to show what he’s capable of.
Pablo Hernandez should once again start in the attacking midfield role in the Leeds United lineup, while Tyler Roberts is another option for Bielsa.
Attack
Patrick Bamford has been in top form this season and he will be expected to get a few goals against Palace. Jack Harrison and Helder Costa should play out wide, while Ian Poveda is an option for Bielsa as well.
