Matchweek 5 of the 2020-21 Premier League season had excitement, loads of goals and great individual performances. A few teams squandered their leads while a few others narrowly got all three points. This weekend threw up more surprises as some of the big sides dropped points.

#1 Timo Werner

Chelsea’s star summer signing Timo Werner, finally opened his Premier League goal-scoring account against Southampton. The German forward was in sensational form as he used his speed to get up the field and shimmy his way past Saints defenders to score his first in the 15th minute.

He once again got behind the defence and coolly slotted the ball past Alex McCarthy in the 28th minute. He then set up Chelsea’s third by squaring the ball to his German compatriot Kai Havertz.

It was an all-round performance by Werner, who showed over the weekend what he is capable of.

#2 Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford led the line for Manchester United against Newcastle United as the Red Devils’ first-choice striker Anthony Martial, was suspended for the game. The England international was in sublime form as he dropped deep to run at the Magpies defence and even won a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes, uncharacteristically, missed.

Rashford then set-up Fernandes for United’s second, before getting on the score-sheet himself. Rashford then set-up Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who scored his first goal for United.

The England man showed great maturity and linked up well with Fernandes in United’s important win on Saturday.

#3 Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been in splendid form so far in the season for Tottenham and has already racked up four goals and seven assists in five Premier League games this season. Kane has flourished in his new role where he has been afforded the freedom to drop deep and create chances for his teammates, while also being the deadly No. 9 that he is.

Kane played a lovely long pass from his own box to Son Heung-Min in Spurs’ very first attack of the game, and the South Korean put the ball in the back of the net to give the north London club the lead.

The English forward went on to score two goals – the first one a lovely shot from outside the box; the second a perfect No. 9’s goal, leaping at the far post to head the ball into the back of the net. The headlines would have been all about Kane if Spurs hadn’t diabolically squandered their lead.
