Premier League Matchweek 6: Top 5 Players

Matchweek 6 of the 2020-21 Premier League season was not a goal-fest unlike previous gameweeks as there were only 19 goals in the 10 games. Liverpool made their way to the top 2 following their win against Burnley and join neighbours Everton on 13 points. Elsewhere, Chelsea and Manchester United settled for a boring 0-0 draw, while the bottom four are still searching for their first win of the season.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 players of matchweek 6:

Patrick Bamford

Patrick Bamford helped Leeds United move into the top 6 of the Premier League with a clinical hat-trick against Aston Villa. The Whites dominated the game and inflicted Villa’s first loss of the 2020-21 campaign.  His first was a neat finish in the box after the goalkeeper parried a shot into his path. Bamford’s second was a clinical strike from outside the box that the Villa keeper couldn’t save, while his third also involved good close control and another neat finish.

Wilfred Zaha

Wilfred Zaha has started off the season in sensational fashion as he has scored five goals in the opening six games of the season. The Ivorian put in a man of the match display against Fulham this past weekend, scoring one and setting up another. He set up Jairo Riedewald for Palace’s first goal with a clever pass and then made a clever run to the back post to score the crucial second goal of the game. More such performances could result in interest yet again for his signature.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings has been crucial for Southampton over the last two years and he has picked off where he left off from last season. The Englishman has already scored four goals in the opening six games, and registered his first assists against Everton. He cleverly set-up Ward-Prowse for the first goal and then put in a teasing ball into the box from the wide area for the Saints’ second, scored by Che Adams.

Ings pressed hard at the Everton defence, dribbled at the Toffees and troubled them throughout the night.

Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester City got a vital win against Arsenal over the weekend to keep close tabs with the top two. The Foxes won 1-0 thanks to a Jamie Vardy goal, but goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel played a big part in the win, making four saves in the game to help Brendan Rodgers’ side keep a clean sheet. Leicester are fourth in the table, just one point behind the two leading teams in the league.

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva had a rocky start to his Premier League career at West Brom, where he was run ragged by Callum Robinson and co. But the 36-year-old has now put in some strong performances for the Blues. Silva had a solid game against Manchester United, making two blocks and two interceptions. He made one crucial block against former PSG teammate Edinson Cavani to help his side to their second clean sheet of the week. The Brazilian has now had clean sheets in his last three games for Chelsea.
