Leeds United registered their first win in the Premier League last week when they beat Fulham 4-3 at Elland Road. The Whites will face Sheffield United on Sunday at Bramall Lane in the Yorkshire derby, and we could see an entertaining game considering what’s at stake.
Sheffield United have lost their opening two games in the league, and will look to bounce back and start a positive run.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side, on the other hand, have impressed many with their performances in the two games, especially in the opener against Liverpool. The last time Leeds United and Sheffield United met was in the Championship last year when the Blades won the game 1-0 at Elland Road.
Early Team News
Pablo Hernandez missed the win against Fulham as he suffered an injury during the warm-up. But manager Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that it wasn’t a serious injury, so he should be available for selection. Kiko Casilla missed last weekend’s game due to an injury as well. Adam Forshaw will yet again miss this weekend’s game.
Let’s take a look at the possible Leeds United team for the game against Sheffield United:
Predicted Leeds United Lineup vs Sheffield United
Goalkeeper
20-year-old Illan Meslier should continue between the sticks, especially considering Casilla is not fit.
Defence
Robin Koch and Liam Cooper started at the back for the Whites, and they should play there yet again. Diego Llorente has signed for Leeds, but he may not be available for this game.
Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas should continue at right-back and left-back, respectively. Ezgjan Alioski is an option for Bielsa at left-back. Koch has given away a penalty in each of the two league games, and will need to be disciplined against a side who will throw men forward.
Midfield
We could see Pablo Hernandez return to the Leeds United lineup for this game. The Spaniard missed last week’s game, and was replaced by Rodrigo. He should play alongside Mateusz Klich, with Kalvin Phillips playing behind the duo.
If Hernandez is not fit, Bielsa could play Tyler Roberts in that role. Rodrigo didn’t fare too well in that position and he may not be chosen again to play in midfield. Jamie Shackleton is another option for Bielsa in the middle of the park.
Attack
Helder Costa had a fantastic game for Leeds against Fulham, scoring twice for the Whites. He should start on the right, with Jack Harrison starting on the opposite flank in the Leeds United lineup.
Patrick Bamford is expected to keep his place after scoring one and assisting one in the win against Fulham. The forward has started the season in fine fashion, and will hope to keep up his good form.
