Crystal Palace Linked With Wantaway Nigerian Speedster: Why Hodgson Should Make A Move

Crystal Palace are in the race to sign QPR’s young winger Bright Osayi-Samuel. The 22-year-old moved to QPR in 2017 from Blackpool and has racked up 93 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 10 and assisting 10 times.

According to Sky Sports, the Nigerian-born winger is not interested in signing a new deal with Hoops in the hopes of signing for Palace. Osayi-Samuel is in the final year of his contract at the club and could be available for a fee of around £5 million.

The 22-year-old rejected a move to Belgian side Club Brugge, whose bid for the winger was accepted by QPR. Despite his young age, Bright Osayi-Samuel has played 172 times in senior football for Blackpool and QPR.

Bright Osayi-Samuel: A good option for the club?

Bright Osayi-Samuel is a winger with loads of flair and decent technical ability, as well as the speed and strength to beat defenders down the line. The 22-year-old shields the ball well, and can turn and run at defences, using his pace to good effect. The right-footed player has primarily played on the right for QPR, but he has also been used on the left as an inside forward, as well as a centre-forward on occasion.

The 5’9″ attacker likes to dribble at the opposition defence, averaging 2.9 dribbles per game last season in the Championship. He is a player that makes good decisions in the final third and also makes late, clever runs at the far post to set up or score goals.

Bright Osayi-Samuel is a talented player, who has the tools to become a successful player in the Premier League, especially for a team like Crystal Palace who manage their expectations quite well, not going overboard in any season.

The Eagles need to add a few more players in attack as they currently do not have too many good options which has been illustrated by their over-reliance on Wilfried Zaha. To add to their worries, it has been reported that the superstar could finally seal a move away this summer which will see Palace shift gears in the transfer market.

Andros Townsend has done a decent job out wide on the right, but there aren’t too many other options for manager Roy Hodgson. The club has secured a decent signing in the form of the talented Eberechi Eze but he cannot be entrusted with the same amount of responsibility as Zaha straightaway.

Bright Osayi-Samuel could be a useful backup option, and an impact player off the bench to add pace and strength in the wide areas. His transfer fee also seems like a bargain, which makes this a good deal for Palace.
