Aston Villa make a bid of €10million for defensive ace: A good option for Dean Smith?

Aston Villa have reportedly been linked with a move for Danish centre-back, Victor Nelsson. The 21-year-old defender moved from FC Nordsjælland to FC Copenhagen in the 2019 summer transfer window, and has progressed well.

As per Danish news outlet Ekstrabladet, Aston Villa are interested in signing Nelsson, and have reportedly made a bid of around €10 million for him.

The report states that Villa have been tracking the defender for a while, and they could finally land their man as their bid could be too tempting for FC Copenhagen.

Nelsson has played 20 times for the Denmark Under-21 side, and is also the captain of the team.

Victor Nelsson to Aston Villa- What will he add to the team?

Victor Nelsson is a talented young defender, who has shown great promise over the last year or so. The 21-year-old was moved from midfield to centre-back, and he has blossomed at the heart of the defence.

Like most modern-day central defenders, Nelsson is exceptional with the ball at his feet, capable of playing accurate passes to his fellow defenders and midfielders, while also bringing the ball out from the back.

The defender averaged 45.9 passes per game in the Europa League last season, and played 2.4 long balls per game. Nelsson is a defender who has good positional sense, and is often at the right place to make important interceptions and clearances.

He averaged a whopping 6.1 clearances per game in the ten games that he played in the 2019-20 Europa League campaign. The Danish defender is also very good in the air, averaging 5.4 aerial balls won per game in the 2019-20 Europa League campaign.

Nelsson has all the qualities to be a good defender in the Premier League, despite his young age. He was very good for the Danish side in the Europa League last season, helping them to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, before they were knocked out by Manchester United.

The 21-year-old could become a good option for Villa manager Dean Smith at the back, perhaps to play alongside the more experienced Tyrone Mings in central defence. The left-foot and right-foot combination would give the Villans good balance at the back.

Nelsson is ready for the next step in his career, and if he can progress well at Villa, he could become a key player for them in the future, and a long-term asset for the club.
