Newcastle United Interested In Fleet-Footed Serie A Ace: What Will He Add To The Team?

Newcastle United are reportedly planning an audacious deal to sign Napoli winger Hirving Lozano.

The Mexican international struggled in his first season with the Italian side, after joining them from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

As per Corriere dello sport (via Transfer Market Web), the Magpies are interested in bringing Lozano on loan ahead of the 2020-21 season. The report states that the Mexican rejected a move to Everton, who are managed by former Napoli boss, Carlo Ancelotti.

Lozano had a poor first season in Italy, scoring just five times and registering two assists in 34 games in all competitions. He still has four years remaining on his current contract at Napoli.

Hirving Lozano to Newcastle – What will he add to the team?

Hirving Lozano is a quick, exciting attacker, who uses his pace, dribbling, and good crossing and finishing ability to create openings in the final third.

The Mexican is a right-footed forward who primarily plays on the left, and can move into the middle to cause havoc. He is a player who drifts into clever positions, and uses his good close control and speed to get away from opposition defenders.

Lozano can also play as a central striker, while he has also played on the right, and as a No. 10. The Mexican is a player with a lot of promise, and can thrive when given the freedom to attack, something he hasn’t found against deep defences in the Serie A.

Newcastle United could benefit from the signing of a player of Lozano’s ilk. The Magpies are short on quality wingers, with last summer’s signing Allan Saint-Maximin being the only top quality winger that they have in their squad. Miguel Almirón was used as a wide player, but the Paraguayan’s best position is behind the striker.

Lozano would give manager Steve Bruce more options in the wide areas, while also allow him to play more positive football. The Magpies will be a huge threat in counter-attacking situations with agile and tricky players like Saint-Maximin and Lozano.

The one issue would be his position as Saint-Maximin currently occupies the left side of attack. But both players have played on the right too, so one of them can switch flanks to offer an attacking threat on both wings.
