Manchester United Eye A Move For Marauding Brazilian Ace: A Top Option For Solskjaer?

Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in signing Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.

The Brazilian full-back joined the Italian club in 2015, and has played nearly 200 games for the club in all competitions, but could be sold this summer.

As per talkSport, the Red Devils are keen on signing the Brazilian international, while his teammate and compatriot Douglas Costa is also on the club’s radar.

The report claims that Manchester United could pay around £72 million to sign both players from Juventus this summer.

Juventus are keen on reducing their wage bill and want to rebuild under new manager Andrea Pirlo, which could result in several players leaving the club. Sandro has three years remaining on his current deal at Juventus.

Alex Sandro to Manchester United – A top option for Solskjaer?

Manchester United’s defence improved considerably in the 2019-20 season, but the Premier League side’s defenders made a few costly individual errors, and are not the finished article as a group.

Luke Shaw, United’s first-choice left-back, had a decent second half of the season, but a serious injury ended his season early. 19-year-old Brandon Williams has done decently well for a player in his first season with the senior team, and it seems that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has high hopes for the teenager.

Although United have two decent options at left-back, they will need to get an experienced, attack-minded full-back in the summer transfer window.

Shaw’s consistency has been a problem, as has his injury issues. The signing of Alex Sandro could be a good move as he is a player that likes to bomb forward and offer width, and put in crosses into the box.

Sandro is quick and strong, and likes to dribble forward at every opportunity. He is also strong defensively, and uses his pace to make recovery tackles during the transitional phase.

The Brazilian has vast experience of playing in the Champions League and Serie A, and could perhaps push Shaw up his game. Williams, meanwhile, is young, and can learn from an experienced pro like Sandro, while he can also play on the opposite side at right-back.

Sandro’s surging runs down the left could also allow Marcus Rashford to drift into central areas and be more of a goal threat. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka not being very effective in the attack on the opposite flank, Sandro could offer Manchester United more going forward.

Manchester United also fell short in the semi-final stage three times last season, and need more players with a winning mentality. Sandro is certainly one of them, and would be a good addition to the team.
