Wolves Eye A Transfer For €20m Rated Ligue 1 Ace: A Good Option For The Club?

Wolves are interested in signing Reims’ young centre-back Axel Disasi, as per reports.

The 22-year-old defender has been a key part of the Ligue 1 side in the 2019-20 season, and his good form has attracted interest from various clubs.

As per L’Equipe, Wolves have offered a fee of €15 million for the young defender. Reims, however, want €20 million for Disasi. Wolves’ Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in the defender, while Ligue 1 side Rennes have tracked Disasi too.

His current deal with Reims expires in 2021, a year from now, which means that he will be available to leave on a free transfer if he’s not sold this summer.

Disasi has made 52 appearances for the club in all competitions after making his debut in the 2016-17 season.

Axel Disasi – A good option for Wolves?

Disasi is a strong and commanding centre-back, standing at 6’3″. The Frenchman has won an average of 2.8 aerial duels per game in Ligue 1 this season, which would be a bonus while playing in the Premier League.

The young defender has great presence of mind, and has shown intelligence at the back which has helped him become a solid defender. Disasi is a tough tackler, averaging 1.2 tackles per game in Ligue 1, while also averaging 3.6 clearances per game.

The central defender is also good with the ball at his feet, capable of playing short and long passes. In the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season, Disasi averaged 55.3 passes per game and four long balls per game.

The Frenchman could be a decent signing for Wolves, who will need to add depth and quality to their squad if they are to progress further up the Premier League table.

The Premier League side are led by captain Conor Coady at the back, with the likes of Romain Saiss, Wily Boly and Leander Dendoncker playing alongside him in defence. But, the quality below these four, with the likes of Max Kilman and Ryan Bennett, is not good enough for a team that has Champions League ambitions.

Disasi could add depth to the Wolves ranks, and would fit in well in the three-man defence that the manager employs.

His arrival Disasi would also allow Dendoncker to play in his natural defensive midfield role, giving Nuno Espirito Santo more options in the midfield area.
