Manchester United Should Cut Their Losses And Move On From Superstar Midfielder| Opinion

Real Madrid’s interest in Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba hasn’t subsided by the looks of it and the Spanish giants are set to pursue the Frenchman in yet another transfer window. Madrid were interested in the Red Devils player last summer, but couldn’t convince United to sell one of their best players.

According to Mirror, Real Madrid are planning to put in a bid of around £70 million for the World Cup-winning midfielder. Pogba has reportedly told his current club that he wants to leave in the summer and will not sign a new deal with the club.

His current contract with the club expires next summer. His former club Juventus and French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in signing the midfielder.

Should United cut their losses and move on from Paul Pogba?

The fee that Real Madrid are reportedly willing to pay to sign Paul Pogba is way lesser than the then world-record fee of £89.3 million that Manchester United forked out in 2016 to sign him from Juventus. The price tag is lesser than the Frenchman’s market value, who played a big part in France’s 2018 World Cup win, as well as helping United on their way to a Europa League trophy.

But, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United should cut their losses and allow Pogba to leave the club in the summer.

The board will not want to be in a situation where they have to allow the Frenchman to leave the club on a free, which would be a huge blow, considering he was bought for a big sum and has also spent a long time on the sidelines due to injury.

It’s quite clear that Pogba’s heart is set on playing under his idol Zinedine Zidane, and the lure of Real Madrid is one that is tough to resist. The Frenchman may also believe that his current club are some way off from challenging for titles and may want to join a club that has a much better chance of winning the Champions League.

United are keen on harbouring young and dedicated players who will help the club in the long run while also helping them progress up the table in the process. Ole would want the club to be in the news solely for reasons restricted to the pitch and how they perform on it.

While Paul Pogba has undoubted class, the failure on his part to quash rumours and stories circulating around him has added to the pressure on the management on more than one occasion, which has been a deterrent especially during a difficult phase for the team.

United have a potential new talisman in Bruno Fernandes, who has had a bright start to his Manchester United career, while Fred and Scott McTominay both put in solid and promising performances in the 2019-20 season. The sale of Paul Pogba could add to the funds that Manchester United need in their expected pursuit of youngsters like Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish, who could possibly help United close the gap with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
