Liverpool Reportedly After Another AS Roma Attacker: A Smashing Move By Klopp?

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for highly-rated AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 20-year-old has had an impressive 2019-20 season so far, which also earned him a call-up to the Italian national team.

As per Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Mole), several clubs are interested in signing Zaniolo, including Liverpool.

The report states that Roma may have to let go of a few of their players due to the pandemic affecting them financially. Premier League sides Tottenham and Manchester United are also interested in signing Zaniolo.

The midfielder has made 60 appearances for the club since signing from Inter Milan in 2018, scoring 12 goals and assisting 5 times in the process. His current deal with Roma expires in the summer of 2024.

Nicolo Zaniolo – A smashing move by Klopp?

Nicolo Zaniolo is one of the most talented young midfielders to current play in Europe, and he can go on to become a top-class midfielder in the years to come if he keeps up his development.

The Italian is a versatile player who can play in numerous positions – central midfield, attacking midfield, wide right and wide left. Zaniolo is a quick player, who is also physically strong, standing at 6′ 3″.

The midfielder has a bag full of tricks and is a good dribbler, who likes to drive at defences with pace, and has shown great work-rate as well. He averages 2.4 dribbles per game in Serie A so far this season.

Zaniolo likes to make short passes to help move the ball quickly towards the attackers, and is an attack-minded player who always looks to move forward, either with short passes or his impeccable dribbling.

The 20-year old would be a fantastic signing for Jurgen Klopp, as his energy and directness with the ball at his feet would align with Liverpool’s style of play.

Klopp needs one or two additions in attack for next season, to add depth to the squad. Zaniolo’s versatility would be a bonus for Liverpool, and under the Liverpool manager, he could develop further.

The left-footed player could be a backup option to Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, or even play in an attacking midfield role if needed. Zaniolo is an exciting player who would be a smashing addition to the Liverpool squad if the Reds can get him for a reasonable fee.
