Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez recently revealed that he would be interested in playing in the Premier League if he were to leave the Spanish giants. In an interview with The Guardian, the Spaniard said that he was a fan of the Premier League as a kid. He said that he would want to ideally retire at Real Madrid, but would move to the Premier League if he didn’t have a long-term future at Madrid.
Lucas Vazquez has come through the ranks, joining the club as a 16-year-old. He has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the club and won three Champions League titles as well as one league title.
Should Vazquez opt to join a Premier League club, which clubs would be the best fit for him?
Everton, under manager Carlo Ancelotti, have played a classic 4-4-2 system, which uses two natural wingers and two centre forwards. Vazquez would fit perfectly on the right side of a midfield four, using his passing and crossing to create chances for Everton’s forwards.
The Spaniard is also someone who tracks back and helps his full-backs, which would be required in a 4-4-2 formation. Ancelotti’s options on the right side of midfield currently are Theo Walcott and Bernard, while Richarlison can play there as well. Walcott is on the wrong side of 30, while Richarlison has been used more as a centre forward, where he has thrived.
Arsenal need to strengthen their squad in all areas of the pitch, one of which is the right side of midfield. They currently have Nicolas Pepe playing wide right, but the options other than the inconsistent Pepe aren’t very impressive.
Reiss Nelson is still very young and hasn’t yet shown what he is truly capable of, Gabriel Martinelli is more dangerous on the left side, while Mesut Ozil’s best position is behind the striker. An experienced winger with the passing ability that Lucas Vazquez possesses could be a good addition to the Gunners squad.
Newcastle United could soon have a big transfer budget following their expected takeover, and they will want to bring in some experienced names from Spain, Italy, Germany, and the other big leagues in Europe. Lucas Vazquez is a throwback to English wingers of the past, who liked to take on defenders, beat them, and put in a menacing cross – exactly the kind of player that Newcastle fans love to watch.
With Allan Saint-Maximin showing great potential on the left side this season, another potent winger on the opposite side could make the Magpies an exciting team to watch going forward.
