Liverpool Linked With A Transfer For All-Action French Ace: What Will He Add To The Team?

Liverpool are interested in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who has been put on the transfer list by the French club.

The 21-year-old is one of Lyon’s many prized possessions who will be allowed to leave in the summer transfer window.

As per L’Equipe, Lyon will be forced to sell some of their stars as the pandemic has resulted in a financial loss for the French club.

The report states that Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas may have to sell at least two of the club’s star players in the summer. Following the suspension of the French league, Lyon finished in seventh position – far from ideal for the club who had finished 3rd in the previous season.

Aouar, who has come through the ranks at the French club, has made over 130 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Houssem Aouar – What will he add to the team?

Houssem Aouar is a creative central midfielder, who can also play in numerous other positions and roles in the pitch.

The 21-year-old is a joy to watch on the pitch with his skilful dribbling, excellent technical ability, as well as his passing ability in the final third.

Aouar has played as a central midfielder, as well as further forward as an attacking midfielder for Lyon. He has also filled in on the left-hand side, cutting in from the left to create chances for his attacking teammates.

The Frenchman likes to take on opposing midfielders and defenders with his dribbling and can also keep possession of the ball, controlling the tempo of the game.

Aouar had a fantastic 2019-20 season with Lyon, averaging 2.6 dribbles per game in Ligue 1, as well as 1.8 shots per game. He also scored 9 goals and made 7 assists in 37 games in all competitions for the French club.

The current Liverpool squad has several talented midfielders, and there is stiff competition for spots in the middle of the park. The two central midfielders in front of Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum and Captain Jordan Henderson, have been dependable for the Reds.

But the addition of a technically supreme midfielder who likes to drive forward and have the ability and confidence to take on defenders, is something that could further improve the squad.
