Lionel Messi has made his first big admission regarding Manchester City.
No, he has not spoken about any potential move or addressed the persistent rumours signalling a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
But he did throw light on his assessment of the upcoming generation of players and a choice, in particular, landed favourably with the City fanbase.
In a segment where he was naming the 15 “youth on the rise” players for Topps Champions League cards, he included Phil Foden along with three more English players.
Foden has long been touted as the future star of City’s midfield but has found opportunities hard to come by given the plethora of options at Pep Guardiola’s disposal. But next season has been earmarked as the one, where he will finally be afforded the opportunity and means to nail down a place in the starting XI, with David Silva exiting the club at the end of the season.
But the lack of minutes has not hindered his ability to impress. Foden is second only to Messi in big chances(6) created in the Champions League this season, despite having played less than half the minutes.
Messi also included former City star Jadon Sancho, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea’s breakout star of the season Mason Mount in the much talked about list.
