Top 3 Bargain Buys In The January Window By Premier League Clubs: Brighton The Smart Operators

The winter transfer window saw the Premier League sides bring in a lot of players, to bolster their squads for the second half of the season. There were some big-money signings, the biggest of them being the transfer of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United for a fee of about £47 million. There were several loan signings by Premier League sides as well, while some of them bought smartly, paying a small fee for a player with a lot of promise.

Let’s take a look at the 3 bargain deals of the window struck by the Premier League sides.

Takumi Minamino – £7.25 million

League leaders Liverpool, who are currently undefeated, did not need strengthening ahead of the January transfer window as they have a very strong squad. They made only one addition to the senior team, signing Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg. The Japanese international was bought for a small transfer fee of just £7.25 million, which was his release clause at the Austrian club.

Minamino had impressed against Liverpool when the two sides met in the Champions League, even scoring a goal against his future teammates. A deal was struck ahead of the January transfer window to bring in the 25-year-old attacker who has played three times for the Merseyside club. Quick, skilful, and a hard-working player, the Japanese international can play on either wing as well as play as a striker.

Aaron Mooy – £5.4 million

Australian international Aaron Mooy impressed for Huddersfield when they were in the Premier League which earned him a loan move to Brighton ahead of the 2019-20 season. The Seagulls then made the move permanent in the January transfer window, signing the 29-year-old for £5.4 million. This is a bargain for an experienced international who offers versatility, work-rate and good technical ability.

Mooy has played in several roles this season for Brighton and is a very useful player for Graham Potter’s side.

Tariq Lamptey – £3 million

From an experienced international to an exciting young prospect, Brighton signed right-back Tariq Lamptey from Chelsea in the January transfer window for a small fee of just around £3 million. Lamptey was one of many youngsters that were given their debut by Frank Lampard, playing one game against Arsenal, and impressing.

The 19-year-old perhaps decided to leave the Blues because of the presence of captain César Azpilicueta and the exciting Reece James, the latter who is primed to be the London club’s right-back for the next decade or so. Lamptey is quick and direct when running with the ball and almost plays like a winger from his right-back position. He is one player that can blossom into a supremely talented modern full-back.
