Arsenal Mulling Over Move For £15m-rated Algerian Winger: Is He What Arteta Needs?

Arsenal could make a move for Brentford winger Said Benrahma in the summer to strengthen their options in attack for next season. The 24-year-old winger has been one of the best players in the Championship this season and has helped his side to fifth place, 2 points off second in the table.

As per The Telegraph, the Gunners are one of the sides that are interested in Said Benrahma, who moved to the club from Nice in 2018. The report states that the Algerian international could be available for around £15 million. Leicester City and Newcastle United are other clubs interested in signing the winger. Benrahma was signed by Brentford for just £1.5 million from Nice in 2018, and his contract with the Championship side expires in 2022.

In the current season, Said Benrahma has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in the 26 appearances he has made in the Championship this season. He has played 3 times for the Algerian national team since debuting in 2015.

Said Benrahma: What will he add to the Arsenal side?

Benrahma is a player with a lot of attacking flair and technical ability, and one who could transform a team. The right-footed player is primarily an inverted winger who plays on the left and likes to cut into central areas. A strong dribbler, Benrahma likes to take on opposition defences, while he also possesses the technical skill and vision to pick out passes in the final third.

He is a player that likes to put in crosses – low and high, and also take shots on goal from outside the box. He is a livewire on the pitch and a player that could be a positive signing for a lot of sides in the Premier League. But, he is not the kind of player that Arsenal need at the moment.

They already have captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has played well from the left side, while the Gunners also have a promising youngster in Gabriel Martinelli. 18-year-old Bukayo Saka is another exciting player who can play on the left side of attack for the Gunners, so signing another left-winger doesn’t make sense.

Said Benrahma can play on the right, but the Gunners are well stacked on that side as well, with the likes of star signing Nicolas Pépé struggling to get game time.

The Gunners should concentrate on strengthening their defence as well as midfield, two areas which will be tended to in the summer. Arteta knows the value of having a strong base from which to set-up a team and will certainly sign players in the aforementioned positions before considering his attacking options.
