German Sensation Could Be Available In The Summer: Why Liverpool Should Make A Move

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz could be on the move in the summer, with Liverpool a possible destination. The 20-year-old has impressed over the last few seasons, and despite a poor 2019-20 season, the Reds are still keen on signing him.

And, this past week, Rudi Voller, Leverkusen’s sporting director, dropped a major hint that the young German could be allowed to leave in the summer. Voller said that he had asked Kai Havertz to stay for another year ahead of the current season following interest in his signature. Havertz’s contract with the club expires only in 2022.

Havertz, who has come through the Leverkusen system, has made over 130 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 34 goals and providing 24 assists. The German international has seven senior caps to his name with the national team, scoring one goal.

Kai Havertz: How will he fit in at Liverpool?

Kai Havertz is a supremely talented player, who can play in several positions, and has the ability to execute different roles for his team. While he has played centrally, as an attacking midfielder or in a slightly withdrawn role, he can play as a wide player, cutting in from the right. The German can dribble, pass, and score, and also has the pace to be a threat on the break.

He could play in a few positions at Liverpool if he does sign for them. In central midfield, he could play in one of the three midfield positions, adding cutting-edge passing and innovation to the final third. With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson behind him, Havertz would be given the licence to move forward and make an impact nearer to the goal.

He can play as part of a three-man midfield or as a No. 10 in the Liverpool team, depending on the situation and the opponent. Klopp tried to sign a similar player in Nabil Fekir a few years ago, and signing Havertz could add a true No. 10 to the Reds’ squad who will be a massive upgrade on Xherdan Shaqiri.

The German could also be an option on the right as a back-up or someone who will offer a different approach to the Egyptian Mohamed Salah in the latter stages of some matches. He possesses different qualities to Salah, and can be brought on to add clever passes to the final third.

Kai Havertz is a player with serious potential, and under his countryman Klopp, he could blossom into one of the best in the world in his position.
