Chelsea & Man United both want £100m-rated England international: Interesting summer ahead

One of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football, Jadon Sancho, could be on the move in the summer as Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on signing the Borussia Dortmund star. The 19-year-old has had an incredible stint with the German club since moving from Manchester City a couple of years back, but it seems like he will leave Dortmund in the summer.

As per The Sun, the German club want a fee of around £100 million for the England international, who has been in terrific form this season as well. Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked heavily with a move for him, while former club Manchester City reportedly have a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his contract.

Jadon Sancho’s current deal with Dortmund expires in 2022 and it’s unlikely he will sign a new deal with the club. He has scored 15 goals and provided 16 assists in 28 games this season for the German club in all competitions.

Jadon Sancho: Transfer Saga

One of Manchester City’s biggest transfer blunders in recent times has to be the decision to let Jadon Sancho leave, that too for a fee of just £8 million. The teenager has the potential to be one of the best in the world, with his dribbling, movement, speed, passing, and finishing ability that he possesses. The Englishman, who made his debut for the national team in 2018, already has two goals in international football.

By the looks of things, there’s going to be a clamour to sign him in the summer, with Europe’s elite all vying for his signature. Chelsea and Manchester United – the two clubs linked time and again with a move for Sancho –  would become a far more potent threat in attack with the signing of Sancho. His innovation, technical ability and cleverness would make him at home in the Premier League.

Manchester United or Chelsea: Who is ahead in the race?

Manchester United, who are looking at young British talent, would be a perfect fit for Jadon Sancho, where he could become one of the key men for the Red Devils. He could slot into the right-sided attacking role at United and would flourish there, playing alongside other talented players like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

Chelsea, too, would be a great place for Sancho to play at, with Frank Lampard playing free-flowing, attacking football. Lampard has not spent a dime till now in his time at Chelsea and is expected to be given a massive transfer war chest in the summer, especially with the Eden Hazard money still warm at Stamford Bridge. The former Chelsea legend has shown he is more than willing to let young English players express themselves and Sancho will find himself in the company of a number of fellow internationals who have come up through the ranks together.

All in all, even Chelsea will be an enticing prospect for Jadon when it comes to him cherrypicking suitors in the summer along with his agent.

The question remains – Is Sancho worth £100 million? Going by his performances this season and last, as well as his age, £100 million seems like the right price for Sancho. Older players with lesser talent and skill have gone for insane transfer fees, and the potential that Sancho has along with his nationality is perhaps the reason for such a huge price tag.

And while we can safely say the price tag in the current transfer market for an England international is justified, from both the club’s perspective, Champions League qualification will also hold enormous importance.

The race in which Chelsea are currently ahead and in a stronger position to finish, which slightly edges the London team ahead in the race for Jadon Sancho.
