Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to bringing AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek to the club in the January transfer window. The Polish international would be the readymade replacement for Harry Kane, who is set to spend a considerable amount of time on the sidelines due to an injury, possibly making a return to football in April.
As per The Sun, Spurs are closing in on a deal to sign the 24-year-old for a fee of £28 million, and he will sign a three and a half year contract with the north London club. The report suggests that Spurs will pay £23.8 million, with add-ons of around £4.2 million. The signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at AC Milan has resulted in Piatek’s chances at the club reducing thus possibly edging him towards the exit door.
The Polish striker signed for Milan from Genoa in last year’s January transfer window for around €35 million, but he seems to be now surplus to requirements at the club. He has scored 15 goals in 39 games for Milan, while also scoring 5 times for the Polish national team in 10 appearances since debuting in 2018.
Piatek is an excellent player in and around the box, whose composed and accurate finishing has brought him plenty of goals in Italy. The 24-year-old has excellent movement and is more often than not, in the right place at the right time, drifting away from opposition defenders to get into good areas in the box.
The striker is deadly in the penalty box, dispatching chances into the back of the net with ease. This season, he has averaged 2.7 shots per game for Milan in the league. The right-footed striker’s finishing ability is superb and he would be an able replacement for Harry Kane. Incidentally, Piatek’s role model is Harry Kane, and he probably looks up to the English striker in more ways than one.
The signing of Krzysztof Piatek could be a very smart move by Spurs as they have lacked an able backup striker for Kane over the last few seasons at Spurs. The Polish striker has a lot of potential and has scored goals consistently, wherever he has played.
His decent goalscoring touch means he might not take too much time in having an impact and the momentum of a new and exciting move could hold him in good stead till Harry Kane makes a comeback.
